some pictures for
Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry

A city seen from the air. Billions of events, millions of stories. Energy moving in cycles for individual entities and for the whole.

Everyone feels this vision for a moment when they look out an airplane window. It must be an elemental experience of the imagination at work. It soon fades, because there is little to do with it. But the artist holds on to it, and broods over it like a hen over her eggs.

The artist reads about the life of cells and tries to grasp the reality of directed chemical reactions in the dark becoming life. Ultimately (ultimately?) becoming self-consciousness.

Is the life of that city a mirror of these processes? More than a metaphor, but rather an actuality that can only be grasped by dreaming. Then turning that dream into a prediction to be tested, and finally seeing not through a glass darkly, but through an instrument face to face.
